Q: Max, you sound like you're having the time of your life hosting Club Capital Dance! What's the vibe like in the studio during your show ?
Hosting the show over the last few weeks has been so much fun ! Jake, my producer and I get on super well which I think is really important. Makes the vibes even better !
Q: Listeners seem to absolutely love it, what's the typical kind of message you get into the show?
Ah that’s very kind, the normal messages are shoutouts where people may be driving home from work, getting ready to go out, or staying in and having a kitchen rave - I’ve had a LOT of kitchen rave messages !
Q: Capital Dance continues to smash the RAJAR when other dance stations are losing listeners. Why do you think it has struck a chord with dance music fans so quickly?
So I think one of the big reasons it’s hit so well with dance music fans is because of how new and fresh most of the music is, I listened to Capital Dance a lot before I got the show and one in every 4 tunes I didn’t know, I Shazammed so much music. Capital Dance has become a really cool and credible music station and I’m super proud to be a part of it.
Q: Looking at the Capital Dance playlist, it's just rammed with so many huge producers and tunes. How do you feel about the genre at the moment?
I’m loving a lot of the new music that’s been coming out recently, the house/dance Tracks are great, and so are some of the drum and bass songs. I was never a fan of D&B but the new Sub Focus track ‘On & On’, and new Netsky and Andromedik ‘Out Of Body’ have made me a changed man!
Q: Incredibly, you only started DJing in lockdown. I've always wanted to buy some decks and now my 11 year old is obsessed with Capital Dance and the idea of DJing too. What's your advice on getting into it?
Lockdown feels like both 10 years ago and yesterday ! A couple pieces of advice: practice makes perfect. Djing is like riding a bike, it’s hard at the beginning as there are so many things to remember but after a while you get the hang of it and you never forget how to do it !
Also - never say no to opportunities because you feel like you aren’t “experienced” enough, always say yes then figure out how you’ll do the gig or event later, exposure is key!
And lastly, social media is a big help. It’s a free tool for you to showcase your talent to people that have never seen you before.
Q: You make your own music too, as does Will Manning and a number of Capital DJ's. Do you think for a presenter to make music themself makes for a better presenter?
Not necessarily, I think it always helps to be able to branch out and do something different but I wouldn’t say it makes for a better presenter. Although it probably helps to understand the music better and put more music passion into the links. I started producing and djing before I became a presenter also, that’s what know the most about !
Q: Capital Dance has put on some incredible live parties, what would be the ultimate destination for you to host a show from ?
It’s a no brainer for me…it has to be IBIZA, the dream destination for every DJ. Second to that I reckon it would be cool to do one on a boat in the ocean.
